Is it for you?

Choose Harrowbound if this sounds like you.

A dark fantasy idle RPG about builds and loot. No gacha, no loot boxes, no energy. It is a good fit for players who want one hero whose build matters, a game that keeps earning while it is closed, and a shop that never sells a random reward. It is a poor fit for players who want to collect a roster, play with no connection, or play on a PC.

Facts checked . We make Harrowbound, so read this as the studio's own description of who it built the game for.

Choose Harrowbound if you…

Want to build one hero and have the build matter

You play one Warrior, Mage, Rogue or Hexbinder and shape it with skills, augments, talent trees, socketed gear and set bonuses. Every wave starts with a choice of doors, gear drops and equips mid-run, and the Gauntlet tests what you made. There is no roster to collect: the hero you have is the one you build.

Are done with gacha and loot boxes

Nothing random is sold for real money, and gold is never sold. Gear drops from play. The one random purchase in the game, the Relic Broker's unidentified relic, takes only gold you earned by playing.

Hate energy meters

Nothing gates a run. You can start a portal run whenever you like, as often as you like. The Gauntlet takes trial keys, and every Veil run banks them for free.

Want a place where money buys no power

Play on the Origin realm and no purchase grants stats: the shop sells cosmetics and convenience only. If you would rather pay to go faster, the Empyrean realm sells XP and gold passes, damage and magic find boosts. You pick the realm, so you pick the rules.

Want a game that respects your time

Close the app and your hero keeps earning gold and XP for up to 8 hours at the level of your farthest Veil. Auto-play is free from the second Veil on, so a session can be five minutes of decisions or an hour of theorycrafting, and the game does not punish either.

Like a climb you can reset and keep

Ascension sends you back to the start of the Veils with permanent power you carry into the next climb. Each run goes deeper than the last, and the build you refine is the thing that gets you there.

Want people around, but on your terms

Guilds with rosters, chat and weekly rifts; co-op Convergence runs; a daily PvP bracket; horde events and boss rushes with leaderboards. Everything can also be played solo, and the Discord is where patch notes land first.

Like dark fantasy and pixel art

Harrowbound is a dark fantasy world drawn in pixel art, made by a small studio in Kansas City that plays its own game. If you want a hand-made feel over a franchise, this is that.

It is probably not for you if you…

  • Want to collect a roster. Harrowbound is about one hero and its build, not a team of characters to summon and level.
  • Need to play with no connection. Offline progress is real, but playing a run needs the internet.
  • Want it on PC or console. It is on iOS and Android only.
  • Want a finished, decade-old game. Harrowbound is new and made by one studio. It gets better every patch, and the Discord decides a lot of what comes next.
